Gutter repair & cleaning
For an effective seal on a leaking gutter joint, begin with a thorough cleaning. Eliminate old sealant and clear any roof debris using a brush, ideally a fine one, like a painting brush, to remove fine dust.
Before applying the sealant, ensure the application area is entirely clean. Use Adisolve solvent cleaner to remove old sealant, oil, grease, tar, dirt, dust, and stubborn deposits. Adisolve effectively deactivates most silicon-based sealants, simplifying their removal.

How to use a gutter sealant to seal gutter joints
How to use a gutter sealant to seal gutter joints
- Clean the gutter
Start by thoroughly cleaning the gutter and downspout. Remove any debris, leaves, or dirt using a brush or a garden hose. It’s essential to have a clean surface for the sealant to adhere properly.
- Apply the sealant
Apply the sealant using a caulk gun or an appropriate applicator directly to the areas requiring sealing, such as joints, seams, visible cracks, or gaps. Begin at one end of the gutter and proceed steadily with an even application to the other end.
- Smooth and shape the sealant
After applying the sealant, use a putty knife or a gloved finger to smooth and shape it. This ensures even coverage, strong adhesion, and a tidy finish. Remove any excess sealant that may have spread onto the gutter surface.
- Allow for drying and curing
Refer to the sealant’s instructions for the recommended drying and curing time, which can range from several hours to a day. During this period, refrain from exposing the sealant to water or extreme weather conditions.
- Inspect and test
After the sealant has dried, check the gutter for any missed spots or areas needing further sealing. Verify that all joints and gaps are securely sealed. To test the sealant’s effectiveness, pour water into the gutter and observe for any leaks.
Tip: To store Adiseal once opened, leave about 1cm worth of product out of the nozzle and store the tube upright in a cool dry place. Adiseal requires moisture for it to cure. The exposed part out of the nozzle will cure creating a cap. To re-use Adiseal, pull the cured part out or cut the nozzle until the uncured part is reached.
