Seal Lead

To seal lead flashing, there are many different products available. Some lead sealants might do the job initially but the seal won’t last a long time. We will look at the reasons why this is case. We will also look at why Adiseal is the best lead sealant & adhesive for sealing lead as well as sticking lead & lead flashing.

Best sealant for lead flashing

The reason why Adiseal is the best lead sealant & adhesive is because Adiseal:

Strongest Adhesive

As well as Adiseal being a great sealant, it also proved to be the strongest adhesive in an independent adhesive strength test by Ultimate Handyman. In the test Adiseal was over 3 times stronger than the nearest competitor. Further details of the test are on the Adiseal page.

In fact Adiseal was so strong, that the screws holding the test rig down started to rip out forcing the test on Adiseal to be stopped. The test can be watched on YouTube.

Adiseal will not only seal the lead flashing but it will also provide the strongest bond whether the lead flashing is being fitted to a rendered wall, a pitched roof or any other surface. Adiseal will also stick roofing felt to lead.

Seals instantly

As Adiseal seals instantly, it is possible to check whether repairing lead roof has been carried out successfully instantly. Once the repair has been carried out, pour some water on lead sealant to find out if it’s sealed the lead.

This video can be also be seen on the YouTube website.

Provides a permanent seal

When using Adiseal to repair lead flashing, Adiseal will also provide a permanent fix as well as an emergency repair. If done correctly, the seal will last for years.

Permanently flexible

Adiseal stays permanently flexible meaning it will not become brittle. With temperature changes, items expand & contract. With this expansion & contraction, products that are not flexible become brittle and will crack or break causing water to leak through it. This is not a problem with Adiseal sealant & adhesive as is stays permanently flexible. The seal for lead flashing will last a lot longer than rival lead flashing sealants.

UV resistant

If the product is not UV resistant, there is a high chance it will fail very quickly. A roof is one of the main areas of a property where it will receive high UV radiation from the sun.

Solvent free

As Adiseal lead sealant is solvent free, it does not shrink once applied. This is a common problem with other products. For these other products to cure, the solvent have to evaporate away, causing the product to shrink and come away from the surface it has been applied to. Cheaper products tend to have more solvents leaving a weaker bond than Adiseal.

Another problem with solvent based lead adhesives & sealants is that the solvents will attack sensitive materials like polystyrene which is a common insulation material in building roofs, walls & other places.

Works in dry, wet & even underwater

As Adiseal works in dry, wet & even underwater, it’s possible to carry out an emergency repair on a leak even if it’s raining outside.

Lead sealant colours

Adiseal lead sealant & adhesive is available in a number of colours including grey to closely match the colour of the lead flashing. It is available in white, black, grey, brown & ultra clear.

How to seal lead flashing

To achieve the strongest seal & bond when trying to seal lead flashing, making sure the lead is cleaned thoroughly first will give the best results. Adisolve solvent cleaner will help remove oil, grease, tar and other stubborn deposits. Brush away any loose debris from any brickwork, or render if the lead is being stuck to a rendered wall.

Adiseal lead sealant can simply be applied directly to the lead or the surface the lead is being stuck to. Although it can take 24 to 48 hours for Adiseal lead sealant & adhesive to fully cure, it will seal immediately. This will allow the installer to test if the roof has been sealed straight away instead of going back up with water on another day.

To remove any excess Adiseal, use a thick cloth. Adisolve solvent cleaner can also be used to help remove any excess Adiseal.

Adiseal is a muti-purpose product & will also fix a leaking gutter & repair a felt roof.
